Rob Brimblecombe

Dr Rob Brimblecombe is Co-founder and Director at n0de, a digital transformation company focused on enabling businesses transition to Net Zero Emissions as fast and cost effectively as possible. Before forming n0de, Rob led Monash University’s Engineering and Net Zero team, directing the University's energy management and procurement activities, sustainable buildings program, as well as lecturing in building science and renewable energy systems, supervised applied research projects in sustainable development and co-authored the book 'Positive Energy Homes’. In addition to multiple energy degrees, he completed a PhD in solar hydrogen and a Fulbright Fellowship at Princeton University.

 

Dr Anna Bruce

Dr Anna Bruce is an Associate Professor in the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering and Joint Director (Engineering) at the Collaboration on Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) at UNSW Sydney. She leads CEEM’s research theme in Distributed Energy Systems, distributed generation and demand-side participation. Her research includes modelling, analysis and integration of renewable energy and distributed energy resources into electricity industries; energy access in developing countries; and energy policy and regulation. Anna is currently leading one of five subprojects in the ARC Hub for Integrated Storage Solutions, the Racefor2030 24/7 TRUZERO Project, and the SunSPOT Solar Assessment Tool upgrade. Other recent projects include Energy Data for Smart Decision Making through the Australian Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs Program, Integrated Smart Home Energy Management Technologies through the CRC-P program.

Anna teaches Renewable Energy Policy and Sustainable Energy for Developing Countries, and previously developed and taught a course on Low Energy Buildings. She is collaborating with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community on Pacific Island Countries’ energy transition planning and contributes to the IEA’s PV Power Systems programmes and leads the Australian PV Institute’s Solar Mapping and Data projects. 

 

Roger Birchmore
Senior lecturer | Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland

Roger is a Chartered Building Services Engineer. He worked for ten years in the consulting and contracting fields in the UK and New Zealand, and for the last 30 years, he has been a lecturer at Unitec Te Pukenga, teaching Construction Managers and Quantity Surveyors about building sciences, building services and sustainability. He has researched the impacts of material and construction choices on internal conditions, utilising full-scale simulations of New Zealand houses. He has published research on the life cycle carbon footprint of building regulation driven insulation improvements and is now working to include the carbon footprint of building services into small/medium scale costing software.

 

Graham Carter
Senior Technical Lead, Sustainable Futures, Integrated Solutions | Lendlease

Graham is a Senior Technical Lead within Lendlease’s in-house technical advisory
group. Graham has worked with high-performance buildings for more than 25 years
and with Lendlease has worked on the design and verification of some of the
country’s most ambitious projects targeting both IEQ and low energy outcomes.

 

Katie Eyles 
Sector Lead | Accelerating Net Zero Buildings - NABERS
Day 2, Tuesday 29 August - Striking a Balance  

Katie is the Accelerating Net Zero Buildings lead at NABERS. Her team is developing an embodied emissions rating tool that will be the national standard for measuring, verifying and comparing embodied emissions in new buildings and major refurbishments. A core aspect of this work is collaborating with people across the building industry, to ensure we develop a tool that's trusted, meaningful, and drives behaviour change to reduce emissions. Katie has a background in service design and digital strategy.

 

Bill Grover 
Principal Mechanical Engineer - Cundall

Cundall Principal Mechanical Engineer, Bill Grover, has over a decade of experience in building services design and building performance services auditing and upgrade planning, including electrification and net zero pathway implementation planning. He has led multi-disciplinary building services engineering design teams for projects in sectors including Defence, corrections, health, commercial and retail, working on both new building and existing asset expansions, refurbishments and redevelopments. Bill also leads Cundall’s Independent Commissioning Agent (ICA) work nationally and is the Victorian Building Performance Services lead. 

 

Tiernan Humphrys, Senior Technical Specialist, Environmental Sustainability

Day 4 - Tuesday 12 September - Back to the Future Pt II

Tiernan is a sustainability leader with over 20 years' experience in the public and private sector. Since 2008 he has led the sustainability of Victoria’s public health system, which comprises 140 hospitals and some 4 million square meters of floorspace. His remit covers delivery of the $40 million energy efficiency and solar program, climate adaptation of existing assets and embedding sustainability into the $15 billion healthcare infrastructure pipeline from masterplan through to delivery.

 

Stuart Kirkwood

Stuart has been working in the HVAC industry for 39 years, including 9 years in
Asia. Stuart currently holds the position of District Leader for Trane Technologies, Australia and New Zealand. Stuart is a degree qualified engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional (AP), and the current Vice President of AREMA. Stuart represents AREMA on several Australian Standard committees; and was a keynote speaker at the 2019 Future Air Roadshow and the current 2023 Future Gas Roadshow.

 

Lucy Marsland
Environmental Designer - Atelier Ten
Day 2, Tuesday 29 August - Striking a Balance 

Trained as a structural engineer at the University of Melbourne, Lucy is a passionate advocate for thoughtful, resilient, and environmentally sensitive buildings that empower and connect people with their communities. 

Lucy is leading Atelier Ten’s Materials and Embodied Carbon practice, facilitating holistic sustainability for communities and buildings through radical collaboration. They were recently recognised as GBCA’s Future Green Leader 2023 and engage in industry as a co-chair for MECLA’s Measurement working group. They provide studio support at the Melbourne School of Design Masters of Architecture and have published in Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, AIRAH’s Ecolibrium Journal and spoken at events including Green Building Day, MECLA Spotlight on Design, for the University of Melbourne Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and for the Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE).

 

Brendon McNiven
Enterprise Professor in Architectural Engineering - University of Melbourne, NED

Graduated in 1989 from Monash University, specialising in structural engineering.
Joined global design firm Arup after graduation and worked in Australia and globally with periods in the UK, Hong Kong, and Singapore. My Arup career spanned 28 years and included leading & managing project work, through to discipline groups and offices.
Amiably parted ways with Arup in 2017 to seek a career in teaching and academia and joined University of Melbourne (Melbourne School of Design - MSD), as Enterprise Professor in Architectural Engineering. This is a 50% role with remaining time spent on other interests including non executive director (NED) roles.

 

Helder Paulini
eMobility BDM | Solution Architect - Schneider Electric (Australia)

Helder is an electrical engineer supporting consultants and partners countrywide with architecture designs for EV charging infrastructure, from distribution boards to load management system and network topologies. Responsible for skilling up electrical contractors on the selection, installation and commissioning of EVlink chargers and EV Charging Expert (load management system) for complex apartment/commercial building projects.

 

 

Jeff Robinson 
Global Sustainable Design Expertise Leader - Aurecon
Panel: Day 2, Tuesday 29 August - Striking a Balance   

With over 29 years' consulting engineering experience as a designer and project leader working in Europe, America and Australia, Jeff is highly immersed in the sustainable building and precinct design industry. Of notable achievement for him is the design of many leading edge sustainable buildings, including the first 6 Green Star refurbishment at 40 Albert Road in Melbourne. Jeff has also recently worked on a number of large sustainable communities projects in Australia and South Africa. Along the way he has shared my knowledge on sustainable buildings and sustainable precincts at many conferences in Australia and overseas. He is a proud to advocate for the design of sustainable, liveable and healthy communities in his different roles, as a member of the Property Council of Australia Victorian, Sustainability and Wellness Committee, as a Sustainability Expert on the Victorian Design Review panel and as an Alternate member of the Heritage Council of Victoria. 

 

Craig Roussac

Craig is co-founder and CEO of Buildings Alive, a leading provider of technology for grid-interactive efficient buildings. He has a PhD in architectural science and psychology, and degrees in commerce, finance, construction management and environmental design. He is the recipient of numerous awards in energy and environmental efficiency domains and is widely recognised for his work on the decarbonisation of buildings.

 

Sam Snutch 
Associate Director - WSP

Sam is a Director at WSP based in Sydney. His role includes the design and development of innovative, sustainable, energy efficient solutions. Sam has a strong technical focus and is active in CIBSE, sitting on the NSW Committee and Seminar series sub-committee. Sam leads major commercial and plant upgrade projects and is passionate about all-electric, future ready solutions.  

 

Sian Wilmott
Sustainable Design Leader - Day 4 - Tuesday 12 September - Back to the Future Pt II

As a seasoned sustainability consultant with over a decade of experience working for top-tier engineering consultancies, Sian has honed her skills in driving sustainability outcomes for a range of clients and projects. She have a proven track record of leading successful teams to deliver sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impact while improving social outcomes.

Recently, Sian transitioned into a sustainable design leader role at Hassell, where she focuses on integrating regenerative design processes into the firm's projects. She is passionate about pushing the boundaries of sustainability and is always seeking innovative solutions that can create a positive impact on people and the planet.

Sian believe in the power of collaboration and stakeholder engagement to achieve sustainability goals. As a consultant, she works closely with clients to understand their sustainability aspirations, the value proposition of the site and the system it works within; to develop tailored strategies, and ensure their successful implementation.
