SDE Associate

Associate members maintain, operate and manage applications of current and developing technology, and may undertake engineering design, development, manufacture, construction and operation.

Membership of SDE and registration as IEng can be achieved through ACIBSE membership, by choosing to select digital engineering as your engineering discipline. It’s possible to gain ACIBSE through either an academic route, by holding approved qualifications or an experience route. Fast-track routes to SDE membership are available for existing CIBSE Associates and those registered as IEng with another UK engineering institution.

 

How to join

  • New applicants for ACIBSE ASDE: Follow the CIBSE guidance for your online application, the resources provided will support you through the full process.
  • Current ACIBSE: fast-track route to SDE membership and post nominals. Upload your CV and CPD record for review by the SDE Membership Committee. If you have your documents ready start your application here. This link will only work if you are already logged in and your membership is up to date.
  • Registered IEng: fast-track route to SDE membership and post nominals.        Upload your CV, CPD record for review by the SDE Membership Committee along with proof of your registration with a UK engineering institution. If you have your documents ready start your application here by creating a CIBSE account.

 

Subscription Fees

Applicable fees include CIBSE Associate membership plus an additional £20 for SDE membership.

 

Eligibility criteria & routes to membership

For the academic route, you will need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • An accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology.
  • An accredited HNC (8 level H units) or HND in engineering or technology (started before Sept 1999).
  • A Sydney Accord accredited degree.
  • FEANI (EEED) accredited Engineering qualification at 1st cycle.
  • Individually assessed engineering/technology qualifications at Bachelors’ level.

If you do not hold the above qualifications, you can still gain this grade through the experience route by submitting the IEng Experience Template with your application.
