About the Role
As the Young Engineers Advocate for the Special Interest Group (SIG), you will act as a bridge between the SIG and student members, academic institutions, and early-career professionals. Your role is vital in ensuring that students and graduates feel welcomed, supported, and engaged within the SIG and the wider building services engineering community.
You will help the CIBSE Young Engineers Network committees to inspire the next generation of engineers by creating opportunities for students and those in their early career to develop their knowledge in niche topics and expand their networks. This will support them to transition successfully into professional roles.
You will also advise the CIBSE Education Guild on relevant changes to industry that will have an impact on university courses.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Engagement:
- Act as the main point of contact for student members within the SIG.
- Welcome new student members and encourage their active participation in SIG activities.
- Academic Outreach:
- Build and maintain relationships with universities, colleges, and academic staff.
- Utilise your connection to the CIBSE Education Guild to impact CIBSE’s influence on academic courses.
- Event Organisation:
- Work with the Young Engineers Network committees to organise and promote student-focused events, such as webinars, workshops, and site visits.
- Collaborate with the SIG committee to ensure student needs are considered in all SIG events.
- Feedback & Advocacy:
- Gather feedback from student members to inform the SIG’s activities and ensure they meet student needs.
- Advocate for student interests within the SIG committee and CIBSE more broadly.
