Martin Deveci is the Managing director of Acrefine Engineering, manufacturer of seismic restraint mounts and bracing products for MEP systems. He has over 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering within 7 years in the field of seismic design and application of non-structural building components. He earned an Msc degree in Design and Manufacturing Management from London South Bank University and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Yildez Technical University, Istanbul. He is a member of ASHRAE's Technical committee 2.7, seismic & Wind Design, which is concerned with fundamental scientific and engineering design principles for seismic and wind resistant design of HVACR equipment and building mechanical/electrical services systems. He is actively promoting the subject through seminars and conferences around the world, and his paper on the subject was recently published at the Tenth U.S. National Conference on earthquake Engineering.
He has worked on various projects that include the Marmaray, a railway tunnel under the Bosphorus linking European and Asian sides of Istanbul, Talca and Clinica Las Condes hospitals in Chili, Keiser hospital in the USA. Noteworthy commercial projects include Zorlu Centre mixed use high raised building with investment value of $ 2.5 billion dollars, Al Baraka Akkom Office Park, and BP's new office building in Baku Azerbaijan

Seminar subject: Restrain Your Services - Design for Seismic Zones.
The seminar is intended for MEP (Building Services) Engineers and professional who are dealing with projects in earth quake zones. This presentation provides information on how MEP systems can be designed to be more resilient to earthquakes and improve building's seismic performance. Details of best practice and international codes and standards are presented. Pictures of damages caused by past earthquakes, and examples of equipment installations and bracing of suspended services are included in the presentation.
Modern buildings are expected to provide safe and comfortable spaces regardless the intention of use. Hence, heating, ventilation, plumbing and other services are integral part of the buildings that are provided by various equipment. All of these machines have rotating or reciprocating parts, which create certain level of vibration. If untreated these vibrations can travel through the structure and cause issues. They are also the source of structure borne noise. Regulations and standards provide guidance for acceptable levels of vibration and noise to which MEP design engineers should adhere.
’Vibration Isolation and Noise Control’ presentation is related specifically to the MEP equipment and installations. The subject is discussed on a technical level, describing what is vibration, the causes and related issues by introducing the basic terms and definitions. Treatment solutions are provided in the isolator selection and consideration part. Finally various types of vibration isolators, their mounting bases and field application examples are presented.
