Steve Snoddon - Joint Managing Director at Diamond Systems

Steve has worked in the fire and security industry for over 25 years, starting out in the family business as an apprentice engineer and working his way up through all areas of the company.  Steve is the nominated designer within the company and is widely recognised for his expertise and understanding of the legislation and codes of practice surrounding electronic fire and security systems.  Steve has attended a wide number of Fire Detection  related training courses run by industry bodies including the Fire Industry Association and BFPSA.  Steve is currently completing the new FIA Fire Detection and Alarm modular course, which is an AO Level 3 certificate. 

Angela Bennett FCA - Joint Managing Director at Diamond Systems.

Angela has worked in the fire and security industry since joining the family business  in 2008.  Angela is a qualified Chartered Accountant, ans is responsible for the strategic direction of the business, including the implementation of the company 's design support service.  Angela will lead the introductory and conclusion sections, while Steve will present the technical section of the presentation.

Summary of Type of Courses and Area of Specialisms Offered:

Fire Detection Design Considerations - the first CPD course we will deliver will cover the main areas for consideration at the design stage of a fire alarm system.

The presentation will begin by outlining the relevant Code of Practice for fire alarm design, and examining the various categories of fire alarm system, which forms the starting point in any fire alarm design.  

The presentation will the move into Common Design  Pitfalls, and discuss the design considerations in relation to point detectors, void detection, beam detection, Aspirating Smoke detectors, Audible and visual alarm devices, Manual call points, zone plans and Product selection under CPR.

The presentation concludes by looking at design certification, and also some recent changes to BS5839-6 affecting the design considerations for sheltered housing and HMOs.

There will be separate presentations created on security systems and other aspects of life safety systems.
