CIBSE is delighted to announce its first training-based contra agreement with the Building Research Establishment (BRE). This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and best practice in sustainable building design and operation.

As part of the agreement, delegates who complete the Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) Practitioner Training will be eligible for a discount when purchasing BREEAM training courses directly from BRE. This provides an excellent opportunity for building services professionals to deepen their expertise and gain a broader understanding of sustainable design and assessment frameworks.

Martin Kemp, Sustainability Product Manager at BRE Group, said: ''I am delighted that BRE and CIBSE are collaborating to enhance leadership in whole-life carbon in practice. Our collaboration on the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard has co-created a world-leading standard. Yet, there is much more value and impact that CIBSE and BRE can make together.

With this new collaboration, we will make it easier for the industry to access best-in-class solutions. At BRE We empower leaders in the built environment to demonstrate and accelerate credible climate action. These collaborations are great examples of exactly that. In BREEAM, we certify the whole-life performance of buildings and have been encouraging whole-life carbon through BREEAM and beyond. We are seeing substantial growth in EPDs. As operational carbon is increasingly addressed, our customers tell us that whole life carbon performance is how they win work. This collaboration supports market leaders to do exactly that. While addressing a key issue of our time. This collaboration is making meaningful and credible climate work more accessible. We look forward to welcoming the next cohort of leaders in sustainable building.''

Looking ahead, CIBSE and BRE will also collaborate on a series of events throughout 2026, including the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard conference. These joint initiatives aim to support the industry in meeting ambitious sustainability goals and promoting the adoption of best practice in carbon assessment and sustainable building design.

This new partnership marks a significant step in CIBSE’s ongoing efforts to provide high-quality learning opportunities and facilitate collaboration across the built environment sector.
