The CIBSE delegation recently attended the ASHRAE Winter Conference in Las Vegas, hosting a seminar and a drinks reception that brought together building services professionals from around the world. Representing CIBSE were 2025/26 President Vince Arnold, CEO Ruth Carter, and Technical Director Dr Anastasia Mylona, alongside Hannah Gray, winner of the 2025 CIBSE ASHRAE Graduate of the Year award.

The CIBSE seminar, titled Cracking the Carbon Code: Practical paths to net-zero MEP systems, explored the challenges and opportunities of decarbonising building services on a global scale. Chairing the session, Dr Anastasia Mylona guided over 100 attendees through a comprehensive journey from strategic understanding to practical application.

The seminar opened with an overview of decarbonisation evaluation at scale, highlighting investor expectations and market trends. It then introduced CIBSE’s TM65 methodology, offering a practical framework for estimating embodied carbon in MEP systems. A project-based case study illustrated these principles in action within a net-zero municipal building, while the session concluded with a forward-looking perspective on measuring and making meaningful carbon reductions in future projects.

During the conference, the CIBSE delegation also met with Bill McQuade, 2025/26 ASHRAE President, as well as a wide range of industry leaders, reinforcing CIBSE’s commitment to global collaboration and knowledge sharing. The evening’s reception provided an opportunity to celebrate achievements, including recognition of Hannah Gray’s award-winning work.
The participation of CIBSE’s delegation at the ASHRAE Winter Conference highlights the Institution’s ongoing efforts to support the global building services community, sharing expertise and practical solutions to advance net-zero and sustainable building practices.
