CIBSE has launched a new Applications Manual, AM10 Natural Ventilation in Non-Domestic Buildings (2026), providing practical, up-to-date guidance to support the design and implementation of natural ventilation strategies across the built environment.
Developed for use by the entire design team, AM10 focuses on the effective application of natural ventilation in contemporary practice. As buildings respond to the challenges of climate change, energy efficiency and occupant wellbeing, the role of natural ventilation continues to grow in importance—making clear, accessible and coordinated guidance essential.
To ensure consistency and avoid duplication, AM10 is closely aligned with existing CIBSE publications. It cross-references key guidance, including CIBSE Guide A, Guide B1 and AM13, which cover areas such as indoor air quality requirements, design flow rates, thermal comfort criteria and wider considerations for ventilation system selection. This integrated approach enables AM10 to focus specifically on the decisions and practical considerations involved in natural ventilation design.
The manual has been structured to support a wide range of users, from those new to the topic through to experienced practitioners. It begins by outlining the purpose of ventilation and the fundamental physical principles that govern natural airflow, presented in an accessible, non-mathematical format.
