CIBSE has been involved in the implementation of the Directive in England & Wales and Scotland from the beginning and set up Energy Assessor accreditation as a result. The EU consulted on the EPBD in June 08 in order to better develop the proposal that has now been published. The Technical Department was pleased to receive many comments from members which were collated into a comprehensive CIBSE response. The EU is now looking to use the Directive as a more effective trigger for actual improvements to energy performance of buildings to take place. The consultation focuses on four main areas of improvement:
* Simplification and clarification;
* Building thresholds;
* Strengthening of requirements (certificates, requirements on boilers and air-conditioning systems, minimum energy performance requirements)
* Leading role of the public sector
