CIBSE is proud to celebrate the appointment of our member, Professor Livio Mazzarella, as the new President of REHVA – the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations. His presidency was confirmed during REHVA’s Annual Meeting in Milan in June 2025.

Professor Mazzarella’s appointment is a moment of pride for the entire CIBSE community. As an active and long-standing member, Livio embodies the values of professionalism, collaboration and technical excellence that CIBSE champions across the built environment. His new role at the helm of REHVA reinforces the influence and contribution of CIBSE members in shaping building services engineering not just in the UK, but across Europe and beyond.

A professor at the Politecnico di Milano, Mazzarella brings deep expertise in HVAC, renewable energy systems, applied thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and acoustics. His contributions to education, research, and practical innovation in building physics and energy modelling have earned him international recognition.

Livio has been an active participant in REHVA for over 15 years and he became board member in 2022 as Vice-president. He also represents AICARR (Associazione Italiana Condizionamento dell'Aria, Riscaldamento e Refrigerazione) in REHVA, having been a dedicated member of AICARR since 1979 and serving on its council and executive board.

Succeeding Dr. Cătălin Lungu of Romania, who served as REHVA President from 2022 to 2025, Mazzarella now leads the Federation at a critical time for the decarbonisation and transformation of Europe’s building stock. His appointment is a recognition of his long-standing contributions to the field and a testament to the international calibre of CIBSE members.

CIBSE extends its warm congratulations to Professor Mazzarella and looks forward to continued collaboration with REHVA under his leadership. His presidency is not only a personal achievement but also a source of inspiration for our global community of members working to advance sustainable and high-performing built environments.
