CIBSE is proud to celebrate the recognition of two of its members, Ruth Tatanga and Barbara Smitten, who have been named in this year’s Top 50 Women in Engineering (WE50) list, published annually by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES).
Ruth Tatanga, Senior Mechanical Engineer at chapmanbdsp and Chair of the CIBSE Home Counties South West Committee, and Barbara Smitten, Associate Director at Cundall, have both been honoured for their outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and for championing positive change in the built environment.
The WE50 list celebrates the achievements of exceptional women engineers across the UK who are driving innovation, improving sustainability and mentoring the next generation of engineering professionals. Their inclusion in this year’s list highlights the impact of their work and their dedication to advancing diversity and excellence within the sector.
As part of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) on 23 June, CIBSE joins the wider industry in recognising the contribution of women to engineering. Across the UK, Women in Building Services Engineering (WiBSE) groups will be hosting and supporting a series of events in collaboration with other CIBSE networks and professional engineering organisations.
These events aim to bring engineers together to celebrate, connect and reflect on the importance of inclusion in engineering. INWED is a time to champion the value of diversity, not simply by making space, but by acknowledging that true innovation and resilience in the built environment can only be achieved through full participation from all.
CIBSE extends its warmest congratulations to Ruth and Barbara on this well-deserved recognition, and thanks them, as well as all women working in building services engineering, for their continued leadership, insight and inspiration.
