National Engineering Day returns on 5 November 2025, shining a spotlight on the exciting and rapidly evolving world of engineering careers. This year’s theme looks firmly to the future, with the launch of the “AI-Z of Engineering”, an interactive online guide showcasing more than 100 current and emerging engineering roles shaping the UK’s built environment, infrastructure and technology landscape.

National Engineering Day aims to raise the visibility of engineers across the UK, celebrate their contribution to society and inspire the next generation to consider a pathway into the profession. By highlighting the breadth of engineering opportunities, from traditional disciplines to cutting-edge roles driven by artificial intelligence, sustainability and digital transformation, the campaign seeks to update public perceptions and reflect the realities of modern engineering.

A moment to celebrate engineering talent across the UK

Engineers play a vital role in improving lives, driving innovation and supporting a sustainable future. National Engineering Day brings these contributions to the forefront, championing the individuals and organisations who are shaping the world around us. This year’s AI-Z guide illustrates the extraordinary diversity of engineering pathways, helping young people and career-changers discover roles they may never have known existed, from digital twin specialists to embodied carbon analysts and data-driven building performance engineers.

CIBSE’s role in supporting engineers and the UK’s built environment

As the professional body for building services engineers both nationally and internationally, CIBSE is proud to support National Engineering Day and the wider ambition to secure a strong engineering future for the UK. Our work underpins the profession at every stage, through robust membership pathways, industry-leading guidance, accredited qualifications and support for lifelong learning.

CIBSE members play a critical role in shaping a safe, low-carbon and resilient built environment. From the delivery of net-zero buildings and the advancement of digital engineering, to tackling embodied carbon and driving higher building performance standards, our community is at the forefront of the challenges that define the UK’s engineering future.

Through initiatives such as accredited training schemes, the CIBSE Young Engineers Network, the CIBSE STEM Ambassador community, and our extensive programme of knowledge sharing, we continue to support engineers nationwide and champion the next generation of talent.

National Engineering Day 2025 is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution engineers make today and to encourage more people to see themselves in the engineers of tomorrow. CIBSE remains committed to supporting this mission, ensuring that building services engineers have the skills, knowledge, and professional recognition needed to deliver a better built environment for all.
