In October, Ryan McShane, Vice Chair of CIBSE Young Engineers Network (YEN) ANZ, travelled to Scoland for the annual YEN Global Conference, joining peers from across the world to share ideas and strengthen international connections.
Ryan’s journey to Glasgow featured an amazing lineup of activities: a welcome dinner, a visit to Tennent’s Brewery and its brewing facilities, an outreach session at a local technical college, and the prestigious CIBSE Scotland Gala Dinner. The highlight was the YEN Global Conference, where young engineers came together to explore how best to serve the next generation of professionals.

“We revisited our ‘why’ and worked as a global committee to figure out how we can help young engineers take the next step,” Ryan said.
The trip delivered incredible value—from building new friendships and international networks to gaining insights into how YEN committees worldwide operate. Ryan noted the breadth and strength of YEN globally, with active committees in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, UAE, Hong Kong, and ANZ.
“We have so much to learn from our UK counterparts in outreach and ongoing support for local committees and events,” he added.
This experience will help shape YEN ANZ’s future, inspiring new initiatives to support young engineers and foster collaboration across borders. With so many committees worldwide, the opportunities for knowledge-sharing and career mobility are stronger than ever.
