Following a very generous donation from the Moss Family in memory of CIBSE Past President, Brian Moss OBE, CIBSE is proud to present the Brian Moss Fan Makers Award – a new annual £5,000 bursary celebrating innovation and academic research in building services.

The bursary is gifted by the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers to CIBSE to award it to a deserving project that demonstrates excellence in the field.  The Award celebrates the legacy of Brian Moss OBE - innovator, industry pioneer, and former CIBSE President - whose work left a lasting mark on the fan manufacturing industry and the wider building services profession.

Brian Moss founded Nuaire in 1963 and was known for his lifelong commitment to technical excellence, product innovation and championing people. Over three decades, he made a profound impact on both CIBSE and the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, where he was a loyal Member. In 2008, Brian was awarded CIBSE’s Gold Medal, the Institution’s highest honour, and the following year received the Fan Makers’ 2009 CIBSE Tercentenary Medal - further acknowledging his exceptional contribution to mechanical fan design and performance.

Each financial year, a sum of £5,000 will be made available to support academic learning, research or innovation in the field of Building Services Engineering.

The inaugural Brian Moss Fan Makers Award will be presented at the CIBSE President’s Awards Dinner on 10th October 2025, as well as at the Fan Makers' Selection Court dinner on 16th October. These dual recognitions highlight the strong and enduring relationship between CIBSE and the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers.
