Nicholas Witton is the recipient of the Jean Heap Bursary in 2025.
Nicholas’ project is ‘The effects of near infrared on sleep outcomes via mitochondrial pathways: A comparative study on the impact of near infrared exposure on human performance, sleep metrics and circadian responses in workplace settings’. His PhD research aims to ascertain the influence of non-visible, near-infrared of daylight and artificial light on physiological and cognitive outcomes in the built environment, focusing on sleep architecture, circadian rhythmicity, mitochondrial function, and cognitive performance.
Nicholas completed a Postgraduate Degree and MSc in Sleep Medicine from the University of Oxford and is now researching the effects of daylight and artificial light on circadian rhythms, health outcomes and performance at The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at UCL.
