CIBSE lost one of its leading lights due to the COVID 19 virus in April this year.

Educated at Walpole County Grammar School, Ealing, London.  Don went onto graduate from Imperial College, London with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics. He was then an apprentice mechanical engineer with the English Electric Company, returned to Imperial as a post-graduate engineer and obtained a Masters degree in mechanical engineering and took business studies at the London School of Economics. He went on to study building services at the National College, now part of London South Bank University.

In 1966 Don joined Leslie Zisman in forming Zisman Bowyer Consulting Engineers where he eventually became senior partner in 1980. Don was very active in CIBSE becoming president in 2005-6, was involved in many rolls at BSRIA, the Building Services Research and Information Association and was awarded an OBE in 1999. He represented the UK on, and was a vice-president of, REHVA, the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations.

Away from work Don was a keen rower and model railway enthusiast.
