It would be hard to overestimate the positive impact that Simon Hill has had on our industry. A highly skilled, patient and considerate engineer with a remarkable ability to bring people together (Simon's Chairmanship of the committee responsible for AS1668 is a case in point).
Simon established himself as one of our most trusted industry leaders. Throughout his career, Simon gained knowledge that would then be shared with the industry, not only through his consultancy, Professional Engineering Solutions, but also through involvement with industry bodies such as CIBSE, AIRAH and AMCA and also voluntary roles in technical committees for various Australian Standards that we rely on today when designing, installing and maintaining mechanical services. Simon’s vast experience enabled the introduction of practicalities to these requirements over time and with each revision of these Standards.
If you are involved with mechanical services, even if you didn’t know or work with Simon directly, your work has been influenced by his. This commitment to the industry and those in the community that are affected by our work over many decades demonstrates true value in the engineering profession. Simon set an example with his knowledge, professionalism and contribution for us all to follow.
Simon was also a strong advocate for education and training, and many CIBSE and AIRAH members will recall his wonderful presentation style.
Whilst there are many in our industry that work tirelessly in the background to improve standards and education, few can hold a candle to Simon's lifetime of dedication.
