Case study - Luceco

We caught up with Luceco PLC about their experience joining the CIBSE CPD Directory.

1. Can you tell us a bit about your organisation and the type of courses you offer?

We are a group of companies that manufacture a variety of electrical products that enhance our customers lives. The product range includes LED lighting, wiring accessories, EV chargers and cable management. We have our Luceco Academy (Luceco Academy) that includes a wide variety of CPD- approved courses  (from CDPSO) that primarily encompasses electrical, building and safety standards. We recently engaged with CIBSE to launch our Bluetooth Mesh course, and we are looking are providing more CIBSE approved courses in the future.  

2. What motivated you to become a CIBSE approved CPD provider?

We have traditionally used another provider for our courses, but got feedback from the industry that they would prefer a course recognised by CIBSE. Due to this feedback we engaged with CIBSE when we want to create a new course to ensure it would be of interest to all in the building services industry

3. How did you find the process of becoming CIBSE approved?

It was really easy to get courses approved by our other provider so I was initially worried there would be a lot of ‘hoops’ to jump through to get my new course CIBSE approved. I was pleasantly surprised by how straightforward the process was to submit the course for approval. It’s a simple web page to select a few options and attach the CPD. I got feedback within a few days my submission was received and that it went to panel. After a week or so I got some great feedback from panel allowing me to improve the course. Once I submitted my changes it was then approved, the whole process was painless and it took less time than I originally thought it would.  

4. What benefits have you seen since becoming a CIBSE approved provider?

The ability to market the course as CIBSE approved has definitely increased the interest we have had from the industry in wanted to book the course. It’s also allowed us to approach practices to offer the course, where previously these practices wouldn’t be interested in the course from our other provider

5. What would you say to other CPD providers who are considering joining the CIBSE Directory?

The process is not as onerous as you may first think, and the benefits to offering CIBSE accredited courses are worth the extra resource that may need to be expended for the approval process.
