4 December 2014: Building Regulations

Back to HCNW Updates

This event was over-subscribed and Ant Wilson delivered an absorbing presentation about Conservation of Fuel and Power Regulations. But which regulations ? Well, it's-your-region: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland - they're all different.

Like any regional event, our review was full of audience participation, Ant testing our detailed knowledge of the Approved Document for England.

Compliance with the Regulations doesn't necessarily mean doing everything in the Approved Document - although that will guarantee the designer a pass.

We were pleased to welcome well-known colleagues in CIBSE and regular HCNW supporters from the architectural discipline and also education at London South Bank. Our audience was in reflective mood too. There was consensus Part L in England has allowed a plethora of ways to demonstrate compliance, instead of proscription - but we asked has the price been complexity, especially in auditing the solutions ?

Much appreciation to Ant Wilson and Kati at Pushkin House for delivering an excellent evening. Thanks also to those who took a chance with a Conditional Ticket - we did get you in.

Our next event is on 19 January with an exposition of Intelligent Buildings - A Surprising Introduction by Professor Derek Croome.
