CIBSE YEN London Centre presents...A World Cup Social
Following on from the great success of our Pub Quiz in March, it was time to once again enjoy some drinks, laughs and food in a pub surrounding, this time courtesy of the month long cultural jamboree that is the World Cup in Brazil. Unfortunately, by this point the England team had done its best to rule itself out of qualification to the next round barring some mathematical miracle. However, not to be outdone, CIBSE YEN London, ably represented by Joe Kershaw from Chapman BDSP, set up at the City Pride Pub in Farringdon and hoped for an England victory against surprise package Costa Rica.
Anyone with a passing interest in football will know that an insipid draw followed, with England limping out of the tournament with a solitary point to show for its efforts. Nevertheless, paradoxically this lack of excitement on the screen was a plus as it allowed all event attendees to chat more freely without the emotional rollercoaster of watching a high-stakes football match.
Attendance was not what it might have been, but this can be attributed to the already mentioned poor performance of the England football team, and regardless, Chair David Mather, event organiser Joe Kershaw and other YEN London members such as myself were able to welcome some new faces whilst talking with Darren Woodward (Pegler Yorksire), Michelle Perry (Trox), Richard Brown (Remeha Boilers), Declan Sherlock (Breathing Buildings) and Maria Johnson (Elta Fans) who were kindly providing the beers and pizzas.
YEN London’s thanks go to Pegler Yorkshire, Trox, Remeha Boilers, Breathing Buildings and Elta Fans for their generosity. Talks are already ongoing for factory site visits and other related events to be held in collaboration with these companies so watch this space!
