Society of Light and Lighting launch LightBytes Online
Posted: 23 April 2020
Following developments relating to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), it was necessary to cancel the remaining face to face events in the current SLL LightBytes series.
In order to help you maintain your CPD remotely, and to deliver the informative, peer reviewed content the Society has developed, the SLL are pleased to introduce a new short webinar series, LightBytes Online. The webinars will be free to access online and recordings will be made available afterwards.
The 2019-20 series focuses on light and wellness, with peer reviewed, bite-sized presentations broken up into four overarching sessions; People, Space, Time and Place.
LightBytes Online will consist of four webinars, each focusing on one of the sessions above, with peer reviewed presentations delivered by the following speakers; Dr Eleonora Brembilla, Research Associate in advanced building daylight modelling; Richard Caple FSLL, Marketing & Applications Director for Thorlux; Roger Sexton FSLL, Vice President Specifier Support for Xicato; and Graeme Shaw MSLL, Technical Applications Manager for Zumtobel.
In the first webinar, People speakers will be introducing physiological, psychological and emotional responses to light, including sunlight and daylight. They will also consider individual needs with reference to case studies.
The second will be themed around Space, emphasising daylight as the foremost consideration when lighting a space. They will also be considering interaction, biophilic design, technology and controls.
In the third webinar, Time speakers will be discussing lighting requirements and potential impact depending on the time of day, considering duration, quantity and spectrum.
Finally, the fourth webinar will be Place, with speakers looking at climate and geography; cultural preference; the relationship between light and place-making; conservation and ecological concerns.
Each webinar will be chaired by current SLL President, Jim Shove FSLL and will include a live Q&A with the speakers.
