Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer – Kent – Up to £48,000 + Benefits Package An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly respected MEP consultancy in Kent. With more than 18 years of industry experience, our client has built an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality building services solutions across the UK and Europe. Their portfolio spans commercial, high-end residential, hospitality, retail, education and healthcare projects, and they are widely recognised for their technical expertise, client-focused approach and ability to consistently deliver successful project outcomes. Despite being a relatively small consultancy, they operate on an impressive scale, providing the opportunity to work on prestigious projects while remaining part of a close-knit and collaborative team. The culture is supportive, personable and genuinely team-focused, offering the best of both worlds: the flexibility and visibility of a smaller business combined with the project exposure typically associated with much larger consultancies. This role offers far greater project involvement than many traditional consultancy positions. Rather than being confined to a specific discipline or spending your time solely producing designs, you will gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle. From client meetings and site visits through to budgeting, project coordination, technical advisory services and design management, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your skillset and accelerate your professional development. The consultancy enjoys long-standing relationships with architects, project managers, managing agents and developers, ensuring a healthy pipeline of varied and fast-moving projects. Their ambitious and collaborative team environment makes this an excellent opportunity for an engineer seeking long-term career progression. As part of the growing mechanical team, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered successfully while maintaining high standards of technical excellence, compliance and client service. Your responsibilities will span the full project lifecycle, including the preparation of early-stage Scope of Works and Performance Specifications, carrying out design monitoring and detailed mechanical design, managing project budgets and programmes, and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams. You will also oversee Licence to Alter applications, provide technical and strategic advisory support to clients, and support projects from concept through to completion. Regular interaction with clients, contractors, consultants and key stakeholders will form an important part of the role, giving you exposure to both the technical and commercial aspects of project delivery. The successful candidate will receive a salary of up to £48,000 depending on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package that includes private medical insurance, a £50 per month health and wellbeing allowance, and 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Additional holiday entitlement is awarded with length of service, increasing to a maximum of 30 days. The business is committed to supporting professional growth through ongoing training, development opportunities and clear career progression pathways, with a strong emphasis on promoting from within. Alongside this, employees enjoy a supportive and sociable working environment, regular team events, activities and occasional company trips. To be considered, you will hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to attend the Kent office a minimum of three days per week. The role will involve occasional travel across the UK and Europe to attend project meetings and site visits, so flexibility to travel is essential. You will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well as part of a team, and demonstrate a proactive, motivated and career-focused approach. This position would suit an ambitious Mechanical Engineer looking to join a forward-thinking consultancy where they can gain broad project exposure, work on an exciting portfolio of projects and build a long-term career within a supportive and growing business.
