Technical Manager HVAC Projects
The Opportunity We are working with a well established national contractor delivering construction and refurbishment projects across the UK. This is a key technical leadership role within the business, offering full ownership of HVAC projects from initial scoping and design through to installation, commissioning and handover. You will play a critical role in ensuring systems are technically sound, energy efficient and commercially viable, while leading delivery across multiple projects. This role is ideal for someone who has come from a hands on HVAC background and is looking to step into a position where they can influence design, lead teams and take ownership of project outcomes. What You Will Be Doing Technical Leadership and Design Lead site surveys, project scoping and client requirement capture Carry out and validate heating and cooling load calculations Define system strategies including VRF, heat pumps, AHU and ventilation systems Select equipment based on performance, efficiency and long term value Identify risks early and ensure designs are fit for purpose Technical Governance and Compliance Act as the technical authority across HVAC projects Review and approve designs, drawings and specifications Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards Oversee testing and commissioning to ensure systems meet performance expectations Resolve complex technical challenges across design and delivery Commercial and Contract Ownership Manage projects from award through to completion Control budgets, variations and final accounts Support value engineering and scope development Ensure all project documentation and deliverables are completed correctly Installation and Delivery Oversee installation planning and sequencing Manage site teams, subcontractors and supervisors Ensure health and safety standards are maintained Monitor programme and delivery performance Leadership and Stakeholder Management Act as the main point of contact for clients, consultants and suppliers Support and mentor internal teams Work closely with procurement and supply chain partners Lead technical reviews and project meetings What We Are Looking For Essential Strong HVAC background with a mechanical bias Previous hands on experience in the field Experience with design, quoting and technical scoping Strong understanding of compliance and risk management Proven ability to manage projects and lead teams Full UK driving licence Desirable HNC HND or Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering Experience delivering projects within retail or commercial environments Manufacturer training across systems such as VRF or heat pumps Health and safety qualifications such as SMSTS or IOSH The Environment Office base in Leeds Hybrid working with typically 2 to 3 days on site Travel required across the UK depending on project workload Flexibility required with occasional overnight stays The business offers a relaxed and collaborative culture with a strong team dynamic and regular social and client events. This is a bespoke, high-autonomy role designed for an engineer who excels in the 'front-end' of building services: site intelligence, client strategy, and technical delivery. You will be the primary technical face of our MEP discipline in the North, working as a strategic partner to our established Birmingham and London Design Hubs. Unlike traditional design roles, this position focusses on the critical interface between the site, the client, and the design office. Your new role Technical Information Gathering: Lead comprehensive site appraisals and technical feasibility surveys. Exceptional ability to produce clear, professional site reports, sketches, and briefing documents that the design team can build from. You can identify a site-based constraint and immediately visualise the potential design solutions. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced MEP Building Services Project Manager to join a leading organisation delivering a £1bn+ landmark new-build development in Manchester. Working within a globally recognised Project Management Consultancy, you will take ownership of the mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) elements of this large-scale, complex scheme, ensuring successful delivery from design through to commissioning and handover. The successful candidate will immerse themselves fully in the scheme, taking responsibility for managing MEP packages from bid stage through to final delivery, providing continuity, technical leadership, and commercial oversight throughout the entire project lifecycle. This is a flagship project requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to operate within a high-value, multi-stakeholder environment.
