Senior/principal Mechanical engineer
A leading UK Building Services & Sustainability Consultancy is looking to appoint a talented Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing Leeds team. Role Responsibilities Lead and develop mechanical building services designs across a wide range of sectors (commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, residential and mixed‑use). Deliver feasibility studies, mechanical calculations, reports, specifications and detailed design packages. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, sustainability, BIM and cost consultancy. Mentor junior engineers and support the ongoing technical development of the mechanical team. Engage directly with clients, architects and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery. Ensure mechanical designs meet all current legislation, industry standards and best‑practice guidelines. Contribute to low‑carbon, energy‑efficient and sustainable design strategies, aligned with modern building performance expectations. Support projects from early concept through to building completion and handover. About You Strong experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment. Able to lead projects independently or take ownership of major design work packages. Skilled in mechanical design software including IES, Revit, AutoCAD and specification tools. Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, sustainability and low‑carbon engineering principles. Excellent communication skills with confidence in facing clients and coordinating with design teams. Degree‑qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering; working toward or holding IEng / CEng is advantageous. This is a bespoke, high-autonomy role designed for an engineer who excels in the 'front-end' of building services: site intelligence, client strategy, and technical delivery. You will be the primary technical face of our MEP discipline in the North, working as a strategic partner to our established Birmingham and London Design Hubs. Unlike traditional design roles, this position focusses on the critical interface between the site, the client, and the design office. You will be the 'eyes and ears' on the ground, ensuring that the technical information feeding our design process is of the highest accuracy. Your new role Technical Information Gathering: Lead comprehensive site appraisals and technical feasibility surveys. You will translate complex as-built realities into clear, high-level briefs for our design team. Client & Stakeholder Leadership: Act as the MEP design lead in Northern-based project meetings, providing expert technical advice to clients, architects, and contractors. Your new role A MEP Revit technician is needed to join the growing team based in Liverpool using CAD and Revit to produce 2D & 3D models according to the company's data management strategy. Handle complex drafting assignments under minimum supervision from senior team members.
