The core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Design of low-voltage electrical installations, typically working from RIBA work-stage 0 to 5. Working with the team on the design of electrical infrastructures, to include cable sizing, load calculations, and marking up general arrangement/layout drawings. Work with the team to develop real building lifecycle and upgrade strategies contributing to improved energy performance. Delivery of sustainability accreditations and supporting documentation (such as BREEAM). Supporting the delivery of energy efficiency solutions to clients to reduce operational costs and improve building asset ratings. Supporting project teams by way of quality monitoring of contractor design/development, calculations, and their physical installations. Essential Skills: Minimum of three years industry experience working in building services electrical design. Formal qualifications in electrical design. A degree is not essential providing a track record of practical training and qualification has been completed. Strong analytical skills, ability to recognise and solve problems. Ability to coordinate electrical requirements with associated MEP skillsets/requirements. Highly articulate and numerate. Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage and drive within complex and agile team structures. Ability to prepare technical specification documents, such as scoping of works. Ability to contribute to written reports and presentations for a diverse range of audiences. An autonomous approach, with the capability of planning one’s own workload (recognising deadlines) and communicating effectively. Good IT skills (Word/Excel/Microsoft Office). Full UK driving licence. Desired Skills: Membership of a professional engineering body (such as MCIBSE or MIET). Experience in the design of fire safety systems. Experience in the design of low-voltage switch panel systems. Experience in the design of building energy management systems (BEMS) and control panels/control strategies. Intermediate Electrical Engineer
The Company: The Company was founded in 1983 in South Africa. The company is very strong in leisure, education, commercial, retail and residential sectors of the market. The Company employs circa 20 employees, and although a relatively small Company punches well above its weight in terms of projects undertaken. Project values have varied from £4million to £200million in terms of construction value. They have won national and international awards for some of its projects and has established itself as a leader in low carbon and renewable technologies and low energy buildings. The type of work is varied; for instance they have written the technical guidance for Sport England wet and dry sports centres and partnered with a number of local authorities and main contractors. The design work varies from developing concept designs to Stage 3 for planning purposes to fully detailed design, contract and construction drawings. The candidate will report directly to the Director. The candidate joins the company in the midst of exciting times, with a strong order book and growth opportunities. The candidate will be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills and ultimately manage their own projects, which will include managing a team of engineers, building physicist and technicians. Qualifications and experience: British citizen or in possession of the right to work in the UK Degree qualified in electrical engineering From 2 years’ experience to senior engineer working as electrical (building services) design engineer (preferably in in the UK) Good design skills Preferential but not essential experience: Working knowledge of wiring regulations BS 7671 Working knowledge of relevant British Standards Experience in Education, leisure, residential, and mixed use sectors Familiarity with BREEAM, and implications for M&E design Revit MEP Job Description: The engineer will be required to deal with projects predominantly in the South-East from concept/feasibility stage, through design and construction to commissioning and handover under the guidance of a director. Junior Electrical Engineer
The Client: Multi-disciplinary Building Services consultant founded in 1997 offering the full range of MEP services nationwide from their 4 UK offices. Senior staff drive projects from feasibility through to delivery across a diverse range of sectors from data centres and retail outlets, to care homes, schools and offices. The Role: Providing design and technical advice on projects for the respective discipline. Provide a professional and technical consulting and design service to the client encompassing of, but not limited to, site surveys, meetings, feasibility studies, due diligence, design, technical reports and specifications, commissioning, and defects inspections. Assist with multiple projects in a co-ordinated manner, meeting project deadlines and cost requirements. Work under the clear direction of others and interpret the needs of a project where applicable, take a discipline lead role on smaller projects as required. Work in co-ordination with all other design team members, internal and external and provide excellent client care and reporting throughout the whole project life cycle. Understand the project appointment and scope of work following a briefing and be aware of any limitations of the duties on different projects. Have an understanding of project costs and the impact of designs and recommendations on the overall budget for the scheme and monitor time against these costs. Take ownership of your workload to meet agreed timescales and deliverables. Attend meetings as required to represent the discipline and be able to convey other disciplines on behalf of the Company. Communicate proactively and professionally with internal and external project teams and clients when required, attending meetings in a professional manner. Arrange and carry out site surveys as required and prepare the appropriate reports. Demonstrate and deliver acceptable technical and report writing skills. Deal with day-to-day queries from site related to the specific discipline and report to the client or via a senior member of the project team as required. Carry out condition surveys for the specified discipline for combining into an overall report for the client. Contribute to the overall feasibility study for projects for the specified discipline. As required produce designs, calculations, room data sheets, equipment schedules and specifications and other technical information as required to meet the agreed project stage / level, and coordinate these with others in conjunction with the CAD Department. Understand project risks and produce combined MEP Residual Risk Reports in accordance with the CDM regulations with input from other disciplines and team members as required. Promote sustainability and energy efficiency within designs and recommendation and discuss the appropriate systems to implement with the senior team members. Carry out and report on defects inspections, snagging and input into the witnessing of commissioning. Check work for compliance with good practice and the project brief and raise any concerns or potential variations with a senior member of the team. Comment on the as-fitted drawings and O&M documents. Provide excellent client care and assist in opportunities for new and repeat appointments and opportunities, support business development and continuous improvement.
