Introducing AS16890: Optimising filter selection to meet IAQ goals with minimal HVAC energy, aligned to AS1668.2, ASHRAE 241 and EN16798.

The need:

Our airfilter standard was based on a 1993 testing methodology and, since 2012 with the third revision of EN779, no longer aligned with global practice. As a result, AS1324 was out of parity with international methods for more than a decade, and filter performance specified in designs was not always achieved in realworld operation.

Who should attend:

Anyone responsible for selecting HVAC equipment that ensures facilities remain safe for occupants and visitors, while maintaining system performance and managing energy costs.

What their takeaway will be:

A clear understanding of how to maximise airborne particulate removal while minimizing the impact on fan energy consumption.

Who is the target audience:

Building owners, Mechanical designers, Facility Managers, Maintenance Engineers, mechanical maintenance contractors,.

The new AS 16890 replaces the nine broad AS 1324 classifications with fifty clearly defined performance levels. Twenty of these sit in the Coarse category, covering filters that remove less than 50% of PM₁₀. The remaining levels classify fine particulate removal across three particlesize fractions—PM₁, PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀—for particles >0.3 µm to ≤10 µm.
