If we are to make the greatest impact, as an industry, and stay within our planetary boundaries, we need strategies that can be applied to a bigger base of building stock and raise the standard to at least ‘good’ for these buildings, new and old.
‘Good’ design strategies applied to a larger number of ordinary buildings, can be more impactful than ‘Great’ strategies applied to a few extraordinary buildings.
This is what the 2022 ANZ seminar series will focus on, and what the title Going from Great to Good – Raising the tide for all buildings, new and old means.
In Going from Great to Good we will explore several themes:
Beginning with the end in mind; moving to a circular economy for existing and new buildings
What is good enough; what principles of good engineering design can and should be common to all buildings
Flexibility and adaptability; designing buildings for an uncertain future
Modern construction principles; methods to improve the quality and speed of building
Making the most of what you have; digital engineering to teach old dogs new tricks
The series will be run virtually as 5 weekly sessions, 12pm - 2pm AEST, Tuesday 30 Aug 2022 – Tuesday 27 Sept 2022
