On 18 June 2026, YEN MENA hosted an online session titled Industry Insights: Building Services & Sustainability, bringing together university students and young engineers for practical insights into careers, industry trends, and the evolving built-environment sector.
The session featured regional industry experts who shared their experience and perspectives on what it takes to build a successful career in today’s competitive market.
Understanding the Evolving Job Market
We were pleased to welcome Dan Ferguson, Business Development Manager at Hays Middle East, who provided an overview of the current hiring landscape across the region.
Dan highlighted the skills and capabilities employers are prioritising, emerging trends within the built-environment sector, and the ways early-career engineers can strengthen their professional toolkit to remain competitive in a rapidly changing industry.
His insights offered valuable guidance for students and young professionals looking to better understand employer expectations and prepare themselves for the next stage of their careers.

The session also featured Aishwarya Chengappa, Senior Sustainability Specialist at Egis, who shared practical insights into building a career in sustainability.
Aishwarya discussed the key competencies required to succeed in the sustainability profession, the importance of developing a multidisciplinary understanding of the built environment, and how aspiring professionals can differentiate themselves within a rapidly growing and increasingly competitive field.
