CIBSE’s Quality Assurance procedure requires that each publication is reviewed by three individuals who are knowledgeable enough to complete a rigorous technical review of the draft.
This stage occurs once your draft is complete, before it is edited and laid out by the Knowledge team. It usually takes around four to six weeks, but can be shortened considerably for shorter publications. Reviewers are asked to make comments directly on a copy of the draft; if you would prefer them to use a commenting form, we can arrange for that.
Once the peer reviewers’ comments and reports have been submitted, all will be forwarded to you at once. You must take all comments into account. You need not make all changes suggested by peer reviewers, but you must justify your reasons for not doing so.
Reviewers must be objective, so it’s best if they have not been involved with authoring in any way. It’s also best if they are not closely affiliated with any of the authors through work or other groups; however, we understand that it is not always possible to avoid this, particularly in fields with a small pool of experts.
If you would like to suggest peer reviewers, please do. These suggestions will be added to the list of names suggested by CIBSE’s Knowledge Generation Panel and Knowledge Management Committee, and by CIBSE staff. We will then endeavour to select a balanced and objective set of reviewers.
