Novel Techniques for Modelling Energy Demand in the Built Environment

Additional Posters, CIBSE ASHRAE Technical Symposium, Dublin, Ireland, 3-4 April 2014

The ARIES project is examining how future climates and technology changes might affect the provision of energy to the built environment, looking at generation, transmission and demand. It is clear that energy demand will transform significantly over the coming decades but quantifying this change, in relation to specific, bottom-up changes, is difficult. The methods proposed in this study rely on aggregation procedures that show how multi-dwelling energy demand profiles (electricity and gas) might respond to individual dwelling-level technology and behavioural changes. These methods rely on a semi-empirical approach to specifying buildings, applying a combination of statistical and dynamic building modelling techniques to extrapolate a small number of buildings to a larger stock.
