Case Study on Energy Management in a Medical Devices Production Facility

Additional Posters, CIBSE ASHRAE Technical Symposium, Dublin, Ireland, 3-4 April 2014

The Company has adopted a corporate position that climate change could negatively affect human health and have committed to reducing the environmental impacts of their worldwide operations. Over the last four years (from 2010) the Company has made significant investment in their Medical Devices Production Facility in Ireland which uses approx 25,000 MWhrs of energy annually. Energy efficiency / renewable energy measures include installing; a 450kW biomass (wood chip) boiler, a gas Combined Heat and Power (CHP) (900kW) plant, a heat recovery system for process water heating and commencing the installation of an onsite 3MW Wind Turbine.

Whilst significant progress has been made at the facilities level, over 57% of the site energy is consumed by production processes where the Company are collaborating on an energy management approach to tracking energy usage and carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) in their production operations.
