CIBSE is delighted to announce that its Technical Director, Dr Anastasia Mylona, has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at London South Bank University (LSBU) as part of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s 2026/2027 Visiting Professors cohort.
Dr Mylona will take on the role of Visiting Professor in Resilient Built Environment and Sustainable Construction, bringing her extensive experience in building performance, sustainability, engineering and the built environment into UK higher education.
The Royal Academy of Engineering’s Visiting Professors initiative aims to bring experienced engineers and industry professionals into academia to enhance teaching and learning on engineering degree courses, strengthen links between universities and industry, and support the development of the skills and employability of the next generation of engineers.
As a Visiting Professor, Dr Mylona will contribute her industry expertise to support engineering education at LSBU, with opportunities to contribute to curriculum development, teaching and mentoring, and the development of innovative approaches to engineering education.
The appointment recognises Dr Mylona’s significant contribution to the engineering and built environment sectors and her commitment to developing the next generation of engineering professionals. It also reflects the importance of bringing industry expertise and real-world engineering challenges into the classroom, helping students understand how engineering principles are applied to address some of the most pressing challenges facing the built environment.
Dr Mylona’s role as CIBSE Technical Director places her at the forefront of the Institution’s technical leadership, supporting CIBSE’s work across areas including building performance, energy efficiency, decarbonisation, climate resilience and the development of a skilled engineering profession.
The Visiting Professor collaboration is being championed by Hua Zhong FCIBSE, Associate Professor of Sustainable Built Environment at LSBU. As Academic Champion, she will work with Dr Mylona to embed industry expertise into education, research and student engagement, drawing on her own experience in sustainable built environments, climate resilience and decarbonisation.
The partnership also reflects LSBU's long relationship with CIBSE: the University has educated generations of building services engineers who have gone on to become CIBSE members, Fellows and leaders. Building on that heritage, the collaboration will support curriculum development to equip graduates with green skills aligned with net-zero and climate resilience goals.

The Royal Academy of Engineering’s Visiting Professors initiative is funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and is designed to utilise the experience of industry professionals to enhance engineering education across UK universities.
Dr Mylona’s appointment forms part of the Academy’s 2026/2027 cohort of Visiting Professors, recognising experienced professionals from across the breadth of engineering and related disciplines.
