The Society of Light and Lighting are delighted to announce that Khorshid Meihami is the recipient of the Jean Heap Bursary 2026.
Khorshid's project is the 'Photobiological Effects of Light on Metabolism, Investigating the Effects of Near-Infrared Radiation on Glucose Levels in Prediabetic Office Workers'.
Khorshid Meihami is an architect and researcher with 20+ years of experience in architecture and design. She is currently pursuing a PhD at University College London (UCL), focusing on the effects of near-infrared (NIR) on human well-being in the built environment. This research explores how lighting at different wavelength can impact different health metrics, particularly in extreme environments like the International Space Station (ISS). This interdisciplinary work bridges architecture, space science, and human biology to find innovative ways to support human life beyond Earth.
The SLL Jean Heap Research Bursary is open to anyone with an interest in light and lighting. Applicants are invited to submit a written paper, along with a short video to outline their research proposal. The judging panel look for a specific piece of lighting study or research designed for the benefit of SLL members and industry.
Application is open to all, and the successful applicant is given up to £4000 funding, which is paid in 4 instalments, subject to the submission of progress reports.
