A Breakfast Conversation on Impostor Syndrome
📅 21May | 🍽️ Cosy Club Bennett's Hill| 🗣️ Guest Speaker Andrew Pain
Talk Outline: Imposter Syndrome - why its toxic and how to beat it
Imposter Syndrome: The feelings of inadequacy, not feeling worthy, believing you’re a fraud and are about to get found out!
It apparently affects 70% of people globally, but some say it’s healthy, that it's a mark of self-awareness and humility, whilst others experience of imposter syndrome is that it's hugely debilitating: it stops you being who you could be, it holds you back and silences you when you most want to find your voice.
If we want to deliver on our potential as aspiring engineers and leaders we need to understand what causes imposter syndrome and how to beat it.
In this talk, drawing on polling of 5000 UK professionals, we'll explore the two types of imposter syndrome which exist, the many common causes, how to beat imposter syndrome, and also, how to deal with negative feedback, when you’re demoralised by someone else's words, because their negative feedback about you, and/or something you did, caught you off-guard and there's no sugar coating or silver lining. How do you process negative feedback, so you can strip out the helpful stuff and ditch the rest?
