Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Decarbonisation & Net Zero - to £55,000 + c.10% Bonus + Package. I am working exclusively with a global Real Estate Consultancy, recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an established M&E team consisting of some of the best Engineers in the industry, to focus on the Decarbonisation of existing buildings. We are keen to speak to individuals who are interested in transferring their Mechanical Building Services Design skills Client- Side into the Commercial Property sector. The aim of decarbonisation & Net Zero team is primarily to tackle Decarbonisation of existing buildings. Still working within their established M&E team but focusing on Decarbonisation and Net Zero strategies across my clients managed estates & portfolio's. The key consideration here is the scale of the impact that you could have on the Decarbonisation of buildings across the UK and Europe. Essentially engineering solutions that work towards optimising client's portfolios. A strategic service offering that involves overseeing building performance evaluations, analysing data, and implementing optimisation strategies through design to enhance energy efficiency. Remuneration: Salary £55,000 Discretionary Bonus c.10% per annum Company pension 8% employer contribution Life assurance 4 x salary 25 days holiday Healthcare What you'll do in the traditional sense: Carry out full detailed design stages 0-7 Client advisory directly with end user clients Project management & coordination with other engineering and real estate disciplines Prepare specifications, reports, design drawings and budget costs to programmes Peer review and overseeing external consultant designs Client/Project management What you'll do in relation to Decarbonisation and Net Zero: Identify and propose design interventions that will reduce energy consumption and improve performance of buildings Attending sites to survey buildings to obtain information for thermal modelling specialists Complete technical feasibility studies for sustainable design interventions. Collaborate and coordinate with other consultants Manage specialist modelling consultants and collaborate with the wider team of consultants to generate the report deliverables Present proposals to clients and external project team members Develop design to implement proposed interventions In Addition to the Design requirements above, the suitable candidate would ideally have the following engineering decarbonisation experience - This is a wish list, so not all essential but gives an idea of the additional skills you could learn in the role: Have a passion to take action to address climate change Competent producing reports and technical studies Heat pump and decarbonised/electrified heating strategy design experience Refurbishment project experience Have an understanding of EPC and CIBSE TM54 modelling methodology Understanding of and experience on Net Zero carbon projects Understanding and project experience with BREEAM assessments Experience working on NABERS DFP projects or NABERS Energy Experience with IES and/or TAS thermal modelling software. Senior Public Health Engineer

Company: The Company was founded in 1983 in South Africa. The company is very strong in leisure, education, commercial, retail, and residential sectors of the market. The Company employs circa 20 employees, and although a relatively small Company punches well above its weight in terms of projects undertaken. Project values have varied from £4million to £200million in terms of construction value. The company has won several national and international awards for some of its projects and has established itself as a leader in low carbon and renewable technologies and low energy buildings. The type of work is varied; for instance, the company has written the technical guidance for Sport England wet and dry sports centres and partnered with a number of local authorities and main contractors. The design work varies from developing concept designs to Stage 3 for planning purposes to fully detailed design, contract and construction drawings. The candidate will report directly to the Director. The candidate joins the company in the midst of exciting times, with a strong order book and growth opportunities. The candidate will be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills and ultimately manage their own projects, which will include managing a team of engineers, building physicist, and technicians. Job Description: The engineer will be required to deal with projects predominantly in the South East from concept/feasibility stage, through design and construction to commissioning and handover under the guidance of a director. Skills that will be developed include but are not limited to the following: Domestic water design including demand calculations to BS and IoP standards Domestic water and drainage pump capacity sizing Above ground foul and rainwater design (gravity fed systems) Fire sprinkler design Design and specification of renewable technologies Detail development of concept designs (RIBA Stage 2) to include equipment selection and specification etc, to completion of construction stage information (RIBA Stage 5) Liaison with architects, clients, structural engineers and contractors Project Management Site inspections Qualifications and Experience: British or European citizen or otherwise working rights in UK Degree in mechanical engineering Minimum 5 years as Public Health Design Engineer with a consulting engineering firm in the UK Good design skills Revit MEP BS EN 12845 and BS 9251 sprinkler systems Fire hydrant design to BS 9990 and BS 750 Dry and wet risers to BS 9990 Working knowledge of building regulations, especially Parts G, H and L Working knowledge of British Standards
