Youngs Trophy 2013

The Youngs Trophy is an annual event which provides a unique opportunity for young professional from across the construction industry to take part in an afternoon of sporting fun and competition.

This year’s event was organised in part by YEN London’s Kathryn Dryden, and her efforts were even more impressive when you consider that she had spent the previous week preparing for a nail-biting presentation in front of 80 people as part of the CIBSE Young Engineers Awards 2013.  Despite this distraction, Kathryn was able to join YEN London Vice-Chair David Mather and myself for the trip to Central London and LSBU’s main sports hall near Waterloo.  The CIBSE contingent was accompanied by twenty other young professionals representing organisations such as RIBA, the IET and the IMechE.  It was fantastic to see so many sectors represented and it certainly provided a nice bit if friendly competition when the whistle was blown for the afternoon’s dodgeball, basketball and five-a-side football matches.

David, Kathryn and I were very much feeling the effects of so much sporting exertion by the end of the day but it was great fun and made worthwhile by all the new and eager like-minded young professionals we met.  This was an excellent and, importantly, different type of event to those usually attended by yours truly so a big thank you to Kathryn for her time and all I can say is we’ll definitely be back next year!
