The grade of Member is open to those who have achieved the required educational base and subsequent development to enable them to act as exponents of today ́s technology, and both apply and manage its application within the broad field of facade engineering.

Members of the Society can use the designatory letters MSFE. Candidates will normally be required to satisfy one of the following criteria:

  1. Have undertaken a full or part time course at MSc level in facade engineering recognised by the Society and have a minimum of five years relevant experience in facade engineering.
  2. Hold membership at a professional grade of CIBSE, IStructE, ICE, RIBA or another relevant institution and have a minimum of seven years relevant experience in other aspects of facade engineering.
  3. Have relevant facade engineering experience over a minimum period of seven years and have successfully completed a technical report covering a façade engineering project or topic.

Applicants who have different but equivalent experience, education, training and qualifications, will be considered.

Before applying, please ensure that you have the following documents to hand:
•    Your curriculum vitae, in chronological order, providing full details of your work experience within the field of facade engineering. This must include dates and details of the companies worked for, role within the company and level of responsibility, key projects worked on and key challenges, cross-referenced to the Scope of Experience form and sufficient to establish your qualifications for the membership grade applied for.
•    A Scope of experience form signed by your proposer
•    Supporting evidence that you satisfy:
o    Criterion 1 (recognised MSc qualification certificate) or
o    Criterion 2 (membership certificate for the relevant institution) or
o    Criterion 3 (technical report)
•    The contact details of your proposer

Applicants should also show evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).

The subscription fees applicable are only the CIBSE subscription fees, at CIBSE Affiliate grade. If you are already a CIBSE Affiliate or higher grade, no additional fees are required.
