Fundamentals of Drainage Design in Reactive & Unstable Soils Now Open for Registration

Following January's announcement of CIBSE's Memorandum of Understanding with AHSCA (QLD), HCAA and ICC, the new Fundamentals of Drainage Design in Reactive & Unstable Soils course is now confirmed and open for bookings — the first time this training has been delivered to industry.

The course equips hydraulic designers, engineers, plumbers and regulators with the knowledge to understand drainage system challenges in reactive and unstable soils, and to recognise when specialist geotechnical input is required. Across nine sessions, participants will cover ground behaviour and site characterisation, soil–structure–pipe interaction under AS/NZS 2566.1, drainage system design for reactive soils, applied code analysis, and case-study based design verification — building toward developing a Performance Solution.

Two sessions are available in this first offering:

  • Brisbane, Australia — Thu 10 Sep 2026, 8:30 am–4:30 pm AEST (register)
  • Online, ANZ — Tue 13 Oct 2026, 9:30 am–5:30 pm AEDT (register) — recording access provided for 30 days.

The course is suited to hydraulic consultants and designers, engineers and project managers, plumbing contractors, regulators, inspectors and certifiers, TAFE instructors, builders and architects. It's led by course facilitators Chris Ferguson (Technical Specialist, Plastec Australia) and Chris Taylor (Director and Principal Consultant, Taylor Environmental Australia), developed in collaboration with AHSCA QLD, HCAA and ICC.
