Celebrating 2017 with Asian flavours, SA wine and insights from Adelaide Zoo
The CIBSE SA Chapter love a good tradition. Once again, the Christmas Lunch was hosted at a team favourite, the Citizen Chinese Restaurant in the southern end of King William St, Adelaide.
All CIBSE members, members from associated institutions, as well as partners were invited to attend this year. This follows many years of hosting around a dozen delegates and resulted in the event attracting a record, twenty attendees this year.
In keeping with tradition, a guest speaker was invited to present on a non-engineering topic. This year Tom Whitworth, a guide with the Adelaide Zoo, who provides member tours and behind the scenes experiences to human visitors ,took to the stage. Prior to retiring, Tom was an Air Quality Engineer with the SA Government.
Tom gave an entertaining and comprehensive overview of the history of the Adelaide Zoo and its free-range zoo at Monarto. This included specific emphasis on the endangered species, their success in breeding in captivity and the antics of some individually named animals.
A relaxed lunch service allowed extra time to enjoy a good variety of great SA wines.
All enjoyed the event, which concluded with a new tradition of Guinness in the Irish Bar next door.
In anticipation of growing attendees next year, a larger venue will be sought by the SA committee for the 2018 event. It will be difficult to top, but a search for another entertaining speaker will be once again get underway.
Proceeds from the lunch are being donated to the Adelaide Zoo and the CIBSE Benevolent Fund.
