The CIBSE ANZ 2019 Young Engineers Awards are open for entry and welcome ambitious young students, engineers and building services professionals to rise above the parapet.
This year the 3 competitions will ask Students, Graduates and Young Engineers to share their views and radical ideas on how building services professionals can push the envelope to achieving reductions in emissions by 2030 in line with the Paris climate agreement.
Australia's commitment to the 2015 Paris Climate agreement is to achieve a 26-28% reduction in emissions over 2005 levels by 2030, whilst New Zealand's commitment is to achieve 30%. The more recent IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C in response to the Paris agreement introduces even greater urgency to achieving large scale emissions reductions over this period, and net zero emissions around the middle of the century. Reductions in energy demand indicate the fewest trade-offs and largest synergies with meeting ongoing global Sustainable Development Goals.
With this in mind, the obligation for the building services community to contribute to reducing global emissions has never been greater and CIBSE wants to hear from those that will be facing these global issues head on.
The competition is open for entries until 25 June 2019 to all Students, Graduates and Young Professionals with an interest and /or a stake in the betterment of building services. Those looking to make a mark in the building services profession should click here to enter
The ceremonious Awards and cocktail function will shift to Melbourne in 2019 and finalists from around Australia and New Zealand will be flown in to be celebrated at this event in September. Incoming CIBSE President, Lynne Jack will also be gracing the event with an address to finalists and guests.
With a Young Engineers Network (YEN) of over 15,000 globally and a growing representation in Australia and New Zealand, CIBSE is committed to providing opportunities for Young Engineers to develop their skills and knowledge of their profession and for young engineers to become part of industry debate. Last year CIBSE’s young engineers network started holding events in two new chapters - Perth and Auckland, and is now represented in five major cities in the ANZ and growing.
