Sirius, 23 Furzer Street 6 Star NABERS Seminar - June 2016

Download presentation here

This year in London, an Australian building took out the coveted CIBSE Facilities Management Team Award. The award recognises the achievements of a facilities management team in delivering outstanding building performance, and when you look at the credentials, the winner should be no surprise. Sirius at 23 Furzer Street in the Australian Capital Territory has become the first major property in Australia to achieve a 6 Star NABERS Energy rating without the use of Green Power.
“A 6.0 Star NABERS rating is classified as ‘market leading’, and Mirvac’s ability to realise this achievement for a major office building demonstrates their leadership in sustainability. Mirvac’s achievement has raised the bar for the property industry, and is an inspiration for the retrofit movement to continue in Australia, ensuring Australia retains its place as global market leaders in sustainability.”
Tom Grosskopf, Director of the Metropolitan Branch, Office of Environment & Heritage, NSW State Government
This is an outstanding achievement for the Building Services Profession and the Australian property industry and results from the integrated efforts of Mirvac’s Facility and Property Management teams, the property owner and the tenant (the Australian Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing). Given that 6 Stars NABERS Energy is a 50% improvement over 5 Stars, how did they do it?
On the 7th June David Palin, Sustainability Manager at Mirvac shared the experiences and lessons learnt in delivering this remarkable building performance. From the design initiatives through to the many operational techniques, David demonstrated the passion needed to deliver better buildings.
David travelled to London to collect the award, and took the time to review building performance issues from a European perspective. He complimented his presentation with some observations made whilst reviewing some exciting developments in both the UK and Singapore.
David was joined by a surprise guest speaker - Nathan Rosaguti. Nathan is heavily involved in Mirvac’s new ‘Living Lab’, being established at their flagship 200 George St offices. He gave a spirited presentation on a range of planned testing initiatives – a bonus for the attendees, and another reason why so many attend these technical sessions.
David has agreed to share his presentation – please follow this link. Nathans presentation was top secret – so if you missed the event……..
The technical session was held at the new WT Partnership offices on Level 26, 45 Clarence St. Our many thanks to WT for providing such a wonderful venue.
