This award recognises the achievements of the facilities management (FM) team, whether in-house or out-sourced, who delivers outstanding building performance from an individual building, a site with several buildings or a portfolio of assets. This will include delivering the comfort levels and working conditions required by the users or occupants, whilst demonstrating substantially reduced carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, and effective waste management.
Who should enter
Entries may be submitted by any or all members of the FM team, for a building or buildings either within the UK or overseas where the initial activity was completed during the period 1 June 2015 - 31 August 2017. Entries should be supported by a full year of operational performance data following completion of the initial facilities management interventions.
The judges will look for entries which are accompanied by thorough evidence of measured building performance such as:
Details of the Facilities Management Team strategy and building performance objectives.
Details of the building, campus or portfolio and any specific building performance objectives for buildings.
Special project objectives, challenges, or constraints and how these were addressed in the initiative.
Specific facilities management measures taken to improve building performance including changes to the lighting, heating and cooling provision, changes to equipment, hours of operation or other control parameters.
User feedback on the building(s) or portfolio and satisfaction with the measures adopted.
Collaboration between members of the facilities management team and occupiers that has contributed to improved performance.
Specific evidence of training and education initiatives to support the facilities management team.
Evidence of improvement in actual performance based on measured energy and water consumption.
The Building Performance Awards seek to recognise outstanding, measured performance. Winning entries provide clear evidence of how buildings really perform in use. Ideally this will include Display Energy Certificates, ESOS report or entries into the CarbonBuzz database, but other clear evidence of actual performance is accepted. Where buildings are expected to have a DEC by law, then we would expect to receive an up to date DEC as part of the entry package.
