Session 4, Poster 2, CIBSE ASHRAE Technical Symposium, Dublin, Ireland, 3-4 April 2014

  • Explain why NOx emissions are measured
  • Describe different units NOx of measurement, and how these relate to each other
  • Compare different systems by a common NOx metric
  • Highlight a common confusion between fuel input (measured as thermal input) with the thermal output of CHP. This includes the BREEAM and CfSH methodologies
  • Demonstrate how CHP may be specified and designed to minimise NOx emissions
  • Compare CHP with an approximate figure for NOx emissions from the national grid
  • Demonstrate the NOx emissions from small scale CHP are comparable with conventional boiler systems (accounting for displaced grid electricity) and may be lower than large industrial scale plant
