Throughout history, buildings were designed to maximize available daylight through architectural design focused on natural light. More recently, as electric lighting technologies have improved, daylight has become almost passé. Today, through evolving building energy legislation and a renewed emphasis on sustainability, encouraged by top architects, buildings are beginning once again to embrace daylight as element of sustainable design.
