Raising Awareness for Quality Lighting Design Down Under

Back to ANZ Home

CIBSE ANZ welcomes two local representatives for the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL), one for Australia and also for New Zealand.  Nigel Cross will represent the society in NZ and Andrew Foley will be the society’s representative in Australia.

Nigel Cross
New Zealand SLL Rep

Andrew Foley
Australia SLL Rep

Nigel has a long history of lighting, having joined the IES as a student member in 1975 before it joined with IHVE to become CIBSE in 1976. He now has over 40 years as an Electrical Engineer having worked in the UK, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

He feels strongly about maintaining high standards in the lighting industry and would like to see more lighting engineers obtain qualifications via SLL and CIBSE.

Based in Auckland, Nigel will work with CIBSE regional committee and other institutions to run more Lighting events for members in New Zealand.

“ I am hoping that we can raise awareness of SLL amongst more engineers and for it to recognised in Australasia as part of CIBSE.”

Australia’s new SLL representative, Andrew Foley has over twenty-five years of experience as an electrical engineer after graduating from the University of Liverpool. He has gained considerable experience within the United Kingdom, UAE, Australia and New Zealand on a wide range of projects whilst designing to British, American, Dubai, Abu Dhabi Australian and New Zealand regulations and standards.

He has gained a wealth of knowledge providing lighting solutions with a strong emphasis on colour quality, sustainability, light pollution and control for numerous projects within various sectors including science and research, healthcare, educational, commercial, industrial and defence, sectors.

He aims to raise the profile of SLL and CIBSE within the region and to raise the awareness of providing efficient, stimulating good quality lighting to environments.

If you are also passionate about quality lighting design and interested in finding out more about SLL, lighting guidance, local standards, or if you would like to get in touch with your SLL representative, please email secretary@cibse.org.au.
